DELAWARE, Oh. – On Weds. Oct. 4, 2017, Delaware City Schools will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day.

Delaware City School students from Shultz, Conger, Carlisle, Smith and Woodward Elementary Schools will be celebrating “International Walk to School Day” with parents, teachers and community leaders. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at each school with many students, parents, teachers and community partners wearing neon clothing to promote this year’s theme “Be Seen, Be Safe”.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment.

The event is being organized by the SAFE Delaware County Coalition, Delaware General Health District’s Creating Healthy Communities program with support from the Delaware City Police Department.
