Annual Garden Workshop Set for Feb. 25

DELAWARE, Oh. –The Delaware General Health District and the Delaware County OSU Extension Office’s Master Gardener Association will present the 3rd annual workshop aimed at helping all gardeners – from beginners to experts – learn how to successfully grow vegetables along with information on the health and wellness benefits.
The event will take place on Feb. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Delaware Area Career Center located at 1610 State Route 521 in Delaware
Event attendees will have the opportunity to listen to featured speaker Carol Smathers, who will discuss community-level nutrition in her talk titled “Garden to Table”. Smathers is an Extension Field Specialist in Youth Nutrition and Wellness and an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University. As director of Ohio Farm to School and Ohio’s representative to the National Farm to School Network, she provides resources and training for statewide stakeholder groups seeking to procure, serve and teach about local foods.
Attendees will then breakout into smaller sessions where they will learn about the health benefits of gardening, which vegetables are the easiest to grow, small space gardening, pest and weed control, composting and much more!
